I just realized that:
Stevie Ray Vaughn = Stevie Rave On

I'm surprised that I didn't see this until now.
I'm sure it's a coincidence but seeing how both
Stevie and Buddy Holly are quintessential
Texas icons, it's quite some coincidence...

Took u long enough. Before he was famous and was playing the club circuit he did a lotta VERY heavy drinking and LOTTSA coke, caring little for his health or hygiene. As you probably already know he and his brother Jimmy were close friends of mine. Anyway in the period I speak of, because of his condition, we called him Stinky Ray Vaughan. In moments when he played a particularly shred-full gtr solo we would urge him with, "Rave on Stinky"!
He was in on the joke.
